The British Shalom-Salaam Trust (BSST) is committed to safeguarding your privacy. Our collection and use of personal information is in accordance with GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation). Please read our privacy policy to see how your personal information will be treated. This policy was adopted 6 March 2018  and may change from tie to time, so do check it periodically.

What information does BSST collect from you?

We only collect personal information when you specifically and knowingly provide it to us. This may include:

  • Your name
  • Your date of birth
  • Your contact details
  • The dates and amounts of your donations
  • Your bank details if you donate by standing order and you choose to give us this information. (You can set up a standing order directly with your bank and then we won’t have your bank details).
  • Any other information that you give us when you donate (e.g. your reason for donating).

We also collect anonymous information automatically about any visits you make to our website. The information obtained, which includes demographic data, location data, device categories and settings, and browsing patterns, is only used in aggregate form, so cannot be used to identify you. This aggregate information helps us understand how our website is used and how to make our information more effective. To collect and aggregate this information, like many organisations we rely on Google Analytics, which uses cookies.

How does BSST collect information from you?

We collect your information when you give it to us directly, for example when you make a donation, purchase something, sign up for an event or communicate with us.  We also collect your information when you give it to us indirectly, for example when you donate to us through other websites such as Just Giving or CAF, or when you sign up to hear from us through other websites. These independent third parties will only share your information with us when you give consent.

How does BSST use your information?

If you indicated that you are interested in receiving occasional information about our work and activities, we will nearly always do this by email.  We normally only contact people by phone to resolve individual problems, e.g. a query over a standing order. Very rarely, we may send out a postal communication.

How do we keep your data safe and who has access?

Information you submit to BSST is stored on secure computers, accessed only by BSST personnel. BSST will never share your data with other organisations, except to process data for reporting on or to send our own communications or for fulfilment of orders. Thus, to process your data successfully, we may need to use an external service like Mailchimp. This means transferring your personal information to countries or jurisdictions outside the EEA which do not provide the same level of data protection. In such instances, we will ensure that we only transfer personal information to reputable and secure organisations with good data protection practices.

How can you access, update, correct, or delete your personal information?

The accuracy of your individual identifying information, and your consent to our holding this information, are both important to us.

If you do not wish to receive any information, news or fundraising appeals from BSST, or would like to update or correct the information we hold about you, please email us at  Alternatively, where our communications to you contain an ‘unsubscribe’ link and an ‘update details’ link, you can use these.

If you write and ask, we will give you all details of your personal information held by BSST, once identity has been satisfied. Incorrect information will be deleted or amended promptly. If you ask to know what information we hold about you, it doesn’t mean that we’ll delete or amend it – you need to tell us explicitly to take one of those actions (and please note that where you have authorized us to claim Gift Aid on your donations, we must retain your contact details and Gift Aid declaration).  We aim to respond to a request from you within 20 working days, except for exceptional circumstances, in which case we let you know what is happening.
